Repeat Prescription Ordering Service (POD) for Northlands Patients 

POD is the easy way for you to order your repeat prescription (as long as your medication review is up-to-date). All it takes is a simple phone call to POD on 0300 3035090 or email; there is no need to come into the surgery or go to your pharmacy. You will speak to a dedicated person who has time to answer any of your repeat prescription queries. The aim of the service is to ensure that patients are receiving the correct quantity of the medication that they need in a timely manner and to help reduce the amount of prescription waste in our area. POD is already used by a number of surgeries in Wiltshire and we hope Northlands patients will find this a quicker and easier way to manage medication.

With patients' needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. 

Please note: Improved Access clinics are not currently running due to Covid-19 but at some point we hope to re-start our Improved Access service which offers additional Primary Care Services in the evenings and at weekends.

Improved Access is a Wiltshire-wide initiative where local practices are working together to offer increased availability of services and appointments in the evenings and the weekend. These appointments are available 18:30-20:00 Monday-Friday, and Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. This collaboration by practices will ensure patients in Wiltshire have this option, but this might mean you will be offered an appointment at another practice.

Appointment types will vary- some being face-to-face, some on the phone - and there will be a mixture of bookable and same-day appointments available across the week. We will be offering appointments with GPs as well as with other healthcare professionals, such as a Practice Nurse or Health Care Assistant. We are keen to balance the importance of continuity of care with convenient access for patients, while ensuring that the service is safe.

To book such an appointment, contact your local Surgery during normal opening times. A receptionist will explain the process, and ensure the booking is appropriate. You will need to give consent to use this service.

Get Online!

Order prescriptions, book appointments and see test results online by signing up to SystmOnline access.  It's quick and easy and can be done over the phone or next time you are in the surgery. More details available at Reception.

National Diabetes Audit

This GP Practice is taking part in an important national project about diabetes care and treatment in the NHS.  The project is called the National Diabetes Audit (NDA).  We will be sharing anonymous information about your diabetes care and treatment with the NDA.  The type of information, and how it is shared, is controlled by law and enforced by strict rules of confidentiality and security.  If you do not want your information to be used, please inform the receptionist, your GP of nurse.  This will not affect your care.

NHS England - List Maintenance Project

Registration letters from  NHS England - please respond if you get one.

The NHS is carrying out work in Bath, Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire to make sure the patient details on GP lists are accurate.  Letters are being sent to some patients, but not all.  If you do receive a letter, please either confirm your details or submit any changes.  If the details are correct, you can confirm by freepost, by Freephone, via text message or online.  Changes can also be made by returning the form in the prepaid envelope.

It is important to respond to the letter, as GP lists do become out of date over time.  If we don't have an accurate record of your name and address, then we or a hospital may not be able to contact you with important information.

We may also need to contact you:

  • with test results
  • to invite you for bowel, breast or cervical screening to protect against cancer, for example
  • to offer vaccination against infectious diseases such as flu or mealses, mumps and rubella
  • to give you an appointment as part of your plan to stay healthy if you have a long-term illness

Please respond to the letter within four weeks, so the NHS can be certain about your details.  If you do not respond, the NHS will assume that you have moved away, and begin the process to remove you from the Practice list. 

Shingles Vaccine 2021/22

Shingles vaccination is available to everyone aged 70 to 79. If you would like to have the shingles vaccine (Zostavax) please speak to Reception to book an appointment.

Are you Protected against Measles?

Public Health England is advising the public to ensure they have had two doses of MMR vaccine after outbreaks of measles across Europe and the UK.  Measles, mumps and rubella are highly infectious conditions that can have serious and potentially fatal complications.

The advice is particularly pertinent to 16-29 year olds who may have missed the vaccination in the late 1990s following reports which falsely linked the jab to autism and which resulted in a significant drop in its uptake.

If you have not been vaccinated or you are unsure if you received two doses, please contact Reception.  We can check you paper records and book you in for the vaccination(s) if you need them.

Named Accountable GP

GP practices are required to allocate a named, accountable GP to all patients (including children).  All Northlands patients are allocated to a GP on registration (or following GP changes).


Please ask at Reception if you want to check the name of your accountable GP.  Whilst your named GP is responsible for your overall care, you may make an appointment to see any of our GPs.

Practice Action

Referral Management

From April 2014, GP practices were required to include the NHS Number as primary identifier in all NHS clinical correspondence issued by Northlands, whether transmitted electronically through Choose and Book, its successor, or on paper. 

Northlands has been meeting this requirement since April 2014.

Electronic Appointment Booking

From April 2014, GP practices were required to promote and offer the facility for patients to book, view, amend, cancel and print appointments online.

Northlands has been meeting this requirement since 2007.

Online Booking of repeat prescriptions

From April 2014, GP practices were required to promote and offer the facility for patients to order, view and print repeat prescriptions for drugs, medicines and appliances online. 

Northlands has been meeting this requirement since 2011.

Summary Care Record (SCR)

From April 2014, GP practices were required to enable automated uploads of any changes to a patient's summary information in the medical record, at least on a daily basis, to the Summary Care Record (SCR).

Northlands has been meeting this requirement since April 2014.

GP2GP transfers

From April 2014, practices were required to utilise the GP2GP facility for the transfer of all patient records between practices, when a patient registers or de-registers (not for temporary registration).

Northlands has been meeting this requirement since June 2014.

Patient Online Access to Their GP medical record

From April 2016 GP practices are required to offer online access to the detailed information from the medical record ie information held in coded form.

We plan to have this service available from late Feb 2016.


Fitness to work Extraction

'This practice may supply personal health data to comply with its legal obligations from time to time, as directed by the Secretary of State for Health, or other recognised Statutory Authority.'


'Anonymised data on the use of fit notes is being provided to the HSCIC on behalf of the Department of Health, and the Department for Work and Pensions. This will enable the Department for Work and Pensions to undertake research analysis to inform policy relating to employment and sickness absence, including evaluation of Fit for Work.'
